Thirty Two points from forwards Declan Cooper and Lewis Tinker helped Barnsley Leaders U13s clinch a three point win over York Eagles on the opening day of the 2009/10 EBL NE Conference. (Darfield Foulstone School Sports Hall, Saturday October 17th).

Cooper and Tinker hit eight points each as Barnsley raced to a 16-4 lead in the opening period. The Eagles hit back to win a 10-4 split in the second period as they put pressure on the Leaders guards in the back court. The Eagles continued to win turnovers against the Leaders' guards and went in front with a 12-2 split in the third period. 

Barnsley faced a six point deficit at the start of the final period but young guards Martynas Kantrotas, Thomas Rymer and Joseph Taylor tightened up the back court play and supplied Tinker and Cooper with opportunities to hit three quick baskets to level the scores at 26-26. The Eagles top scorer Christian Nicholson twice regained the lead for his team but two baskets in the final minute from Cooper and Tinker sealed the U13s a 34-31 victory.
Earlier both the Leaders and Eagles had suffered defeats by Hatfield Fliers. Fliers forward Aneil Sanguera was dominant as his team defeated Barnsley by 40-27 and York by 50-31. Sanguera finished with 31 points and Hatfield captain Levoguer hit 22. Christian Nicholson with 17 and James Griffiths with 16 top scored for the Eagles.
