Barnsley Leaders VS (U13) H'pool Heat - R'ham Hawks

Forward Lewis Tinker scored with his first free shot and then with a rebound to put Barnsley 3-0 up after two minutes. The Heat then got going with a 6-0 run before Jacob Danks and Declan Cooper were on target for Barnsley. The period ended with Hartlepool 12-7 in front. Forwards Cooper and Tinker were efficient scorers for the Leaders but the home side's greater strength in the back court repeatedly won turnovers which were converted into home team points.  By half time the Leaders trailed by 24-15. 

After the break, Cooper and Tinker scored all but two of the Leaders nineteen points whilst their opponents scored twenty four. The Leaders then went straight into action against Rotherham Hawks and ten points from Tinker, eight from Cooper and one from Jacob Danks contributed to a 19-13 Barnsley lead in the first period. As Barnsley's forwards began to tire, Rotherham's guards started to dominated the set up play, won turn overs and repeatedly penetrated Barnsley's defence, to win a 20-9 split in the second period. The same pattern continued in the second half with the Hawks winning 17-10 and 18-11 splits. 

The two games were a tough test for Barnsley's under age guards but they responded well and will no doubt turn the tables as they move closer to the U13 age level.
